Occupational Therapist Assistant

Tell a little bit about you, what you enjoy, how long you have been a therapist, etc.

I grew up in the military lifestyle and have come to love traveling because of this. I’ve lived in Fargo for 9 years now and most recently graduated from NDSCS with an Associates in Applied Science for Occupational Therapy Assistant.

What do you like most about the work we do here?

Though having just started at Embrace Therapies, I really love connecting with the kids and helping them develop skills that make themselves proud and enable them to grow and have fun at the same time.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?

Though just starting in this new profession, as whole I am most proud of being able to see those I’ve worked with overcome their challenges and finding more joy in their own success. I look forward to continuing in this career and being able to learn and grow myself as I reflect from the clients I work with as well.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

I do photography in my spare time – both professionally and as a hobby and greatly enjoying editing all the photos and laughing with clients over the “oops” photos (which are the best in my opinion).

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t worry about keeping up with everyone else around you, nor about being “perfect”. There’s no such thing. Just smile, stay your own course at your own pace, and remember that as you reach out and are kind to others – that will truly bring the most joy back to you.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

The ability to heal and teleportation.

How did you decide to go into speech/occupational therapy?

I learned what OT was and immediately thought, “this IS me.”

What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?

It’s not easy, it takes a lot skill, a lot of creativity and a lot patience. You really have to care about people and problem solve the best way to help them reach goals.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?

For sweater weather in Midwest to last longer than winter, for longer time with those I miss and love, and of course, for 3 more wishes. 😉

What do you enjoy most about working here?

After just a short time here I’d have to say what I enjoy most about Embrace Therapies is the team and how much they genuinely and passionately care about the kids they are working with.

What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?

Everything. I don’t know how to low-key watch/read anything. I’m fully invested in every story/movie line.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Travel more and become fluent in another language
